With this telescope it is possible to observe the faintest objects and to trail the confines of the universe. Its primary mirror diameter, advanced and diverse instrumentation and its location makes it one of the best telescopes in the world. Many discoveries, such as confirmation of the existence of a black hole in our galaxy, have been made with this telescope. It also took part in the detection and research of the first ?brown dwarfs?, found in the Pleiades cluster. Furthermore, it has observed a gamma-ray outburst in the optical spectrum for the first time, and it has greatly contributed to future universe evolution knowledge by observing very far supernovae. The telescope is located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain).
